Photography in the
Great Smoky Mountains
ATTENTION SHUTTERBUGS!
Townsend is a photographer’s year-round playground.
Basking under the warmth of the sun on an innertube or just relaxing next to a splashing river or creek, it’s summer - your best chance to view wildlife.
See the miracle of fall with its seasonal brilliance of changing colors and the memorable fragrance of a crisp autumn morning. The hues in the mountains of East Tennessee are world famous this time of year. Prime leaf viewing is generally around the 3rd and 4th week of October.
Ever explore a snowy trail in the clear mountain air of the Smokies? The quiet of winter will bring out the adventurer in you. Even the smallest sounds in the forest come alive due to the completely changed environment. At the end of the day, cozy up in front of a fireplace and make plans for tomorrow.
If you'd like to learn more, there are opportunities for photography workshops at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, offered each Spring and Fall.
